Sharing Charity Event Posts: YOU can make an IMPACT!

While scrolling through your newsfeeds on any platform you may occasionally run across things going on in your area.  How often do you feel compelled to share those posts?   I know that I am more likely to share if it is an event or group that I know a little something about.  Of course, I’m also very likely to share pictures from local animal groups too.  I want every fur-baby to have a home. 🙂

A study conducted (please don’t roll your eyes here….this is important!) of Facebook users by Pew Research and the New York Times Customer Insight Group showed that 69% of users share information because it makes them feel more involved in the world.  People want to do want to be involved and they want to help.

My point is this: when you care about your community it is important to participate.  One of the easiest ways to do this is through sharing posts from your favorite groups.  Help get people interested in fundraising events, volunteering, and the positive influence these organizations have in our corner of the world. Organizations like CHIP don’t have big budgets so they need you to spread the word.

A great example of this is happening right now in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia.  The Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) of Roanoke Valley is hosting a charity poker tournament on Friday, October 16 at the Sanctuary in Roanoke. This fundraiser, like most non-profits, is crucial to getting funding to benefit the poorest and neediest children in our area.

In case you don’t know, CHIP is an early childhood visiting program.  The great folks at this organization pair low-income children from birth to kindergarten age with those who can help them get access to medical care and educational testing.  Read more about all the services CHIP offers by clicking here.

I’d like to challenge the readers to become more involved in your communities.  Donate money, volunteer your time, and SHARE POSTS!!!  You can increase the reach tremendously by taking two seconds and sharing.  The value goes up if you add a little comment too.  Show a little love to the organization by liking or favoriting their posts. If everyone gives a little, the IMPACT WILL BE SIGNIFICANT.

Can You Glorify God On Social Media? YES, YOU CAN!

Since the Spring of 2011 I have posted scriptures first thing in the morning on Facebook.  I haven’t missed too many days.  I started this habit after I became connected with a mission agency called MissionNext.  I was starting on a path to help them with public relations projects and I wanted to make sure that I was grounded in the Lord.   This was one of the tools I used.

Projecting The Positive

I am a passionate believer that all social media platforms can be used to project positive images, thoughts, and themes.  With billions on Facebook alone, the power of one can have an impact.   I love watching what happens when a really good story and a graphic is shared thousands of times.

Every time when I thought that I might stop posting scriptures someone would send me a message saying how much that message touched them.   I don’t look to see how many people “like” my posts get….that is not my driver.  My driver is that I am sharing the Word with people.

Going Graphic

A couple of months ago when I started taking a Social Media Manager’s class through the fantastic folks at iBloom, I found a way to take the scriptures to the next level.  I now pair my original photography (occasionally I do use pictures from friends or family…only two so far!) with scripture.   I’ve found that for me that using this extra element (the picture) heightens the experience for me.  Finding the scripture that fits the picture.   Some days it is as easy and whipping up a batch of brownies….some days I have to do a lot of research.

I’m especially blessed that Tracy Barse with FindGreatCompanies.com LLC  was in the same class with me and wanted me to share my gifts with her business.

As of this publishing date, I’ve made 170 graphics for them and over 70 for myself.  I use PicMonkey and Canva to create my graphics….sometimes I use both to achieve the look I want.

How You Can Hop On The Bandwagon

YOU can make a difference.

  • Work hard to put out only good content!  Don’t fall into the trap of bashing the other person’s point of view.
  • Elevate your friends, candidate, cause above the junk that is out there.
  • Pass along information that benefits others–a good blog, product, or a yummy recipe.
  • Share pictures of your travels (I personally love this because I can travel virtually and it doesn’t cost me a dime!)
  • Show us your children and pets.
  • Share stories of good triumphing.
  • Use social media as a tool to pray and care for others.

God wants us to LOVE one another and social media is an incredible way to share the love with a huge audience.  Be Encouraged!  Think about how you can make a difference next time you hop on your platform of choice.

Thanks for reading!

Mary Lu 🙂
